SABAH - Borneo, Malaysia: The Land Below The Wind

Borneo is the third largest non continental island in the world and is strategically located in South East Asia. The island surrounded by the South China Sea to the north and northwest, the Sulu Sea to the northeast, the Celebes Sea and the Makassar Strait to the east, and the Java Sea and Karimata Strait to the south. Occupied by 3 countries; with the largest portion part of Indonesia (Kalimantan), followed by Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak) and finally Brunei.

Formerly known as North Borneo, Sabah is one of the 13 member states of Malaysia. The second largest state (28,429 Sq ml), located at eastern part in the country and the home to 32 different indigenous groups that consist of over 30 ethnic races with population of approximately 3.1 million (as of year 2010); Sabah is often described as the people that makes visiting Sabah so special.

Sabah is well known as “THE LAND BELOW THE WIND”, because it is located just south of the typhoon-prone region, making it free from typhoons. It is linked with numerous international and domestic flights, such; Malaysia Airline, Air Asia, Silk Air, Far East Air Tansport, Asiana Airlines, Royal Brunei and Dragon Air.

Sabah have it all from the world’s largest flower – the Rafflesia, one of the highest mountains is South East Asia – Mount Kinabalu, to one of the world’s top dive sites – Sipadan Island. Sabah, as well renowned for its untouched rainforests that are home to various of rare and endangered wildlife species.
